Earrings have long been heralded as the simplest way to elevate an outfit, and clip-on designs are enjoying a renaissance in 2025. Once pigeonholed as “grandma jewelry,” modern earclips now appeal to both pierced and non-pierced wearers, offering a pain-free option that bridges generations and style preferences.
High-end maisons such as Verdura, Belperron, and Margherita Burgener have embraced this revival by engineering hybrid earclips with retractable posts and dual-mechanism fittings. This allows wearers to switch effortlessly between stud mode for pierced lobes and a classic clip-on fit—blurring the line between functionality and fashion.
Celebrities from Hannah Einbinder to Julia Louis-Dreyfus have showcased these versatile designs, proving that clip-ons can hold their own on the red carpet. The resurgence has also inspired playful experimentation: smaller, lightweight motifs like pearls and stars cater to casual daytime looks, while bold, sculptural pieces provide a statement for evening wear.
Jonathan Joseph Rosse of JJR highlights the trend’s creative potential, explaining, “Earclips let you play with form—wear them on your lobe, lapel, or even as cufflinks at a special event.” His Peony earclip-turned-brooch exemplifies how a single piece can transcend conventional roles, encouraging wearers to rethink the bounds of jewelry.
